Ink painting/drawing of sugarcane whip smut, caused by the fungus Sporisorium scitamineum (synonym Ustilago scitaminea).

The painting shows a sugarcane plant with seven green leaves, and a red blush on the lower stem. From the top of the plant emerges a long, dark brown whip-like structure known as the "smut whip". This whip has emerged from the meristem in place of a spindle leaf.
