September: Pear Juniper Rust

I painted pear rust symptoms, caused by the fungus Gymnosporangium sabinae, for the September illustration of the BSPP plant pathogens calendar.

Left: The painting shows the adaxial (upper) and abaxial (lower) sides of a leaf, with two bright orange spots visible on both surfaces. The abaxial lesions have a gall-like outgrowth. Right: A juniper branch with a jelly-like, tentacled outgrowth.
